Message from Cllr Knight

Cycle paths are go...?
UDC is considering a feasibility study for cycle paths in the District.   One of the leading campaigns for a cycle route has been the Audley End route.  However, for many years I have been fighting to get a cycle path from Carver Barracks to Saffron Walden, I have received a lot of warm words but the answer has always been there has not been the finance available.   With the Government and Health Authorities pushing for a healthier and eco friendly attitude towards transport, coupled no doubt with our excellent success in the Tour de France and Olympics, Cycle paths are now being seriously considered in the District.

House Insurance

SFA Insurance Cover

The AFF have seen a number of families suffer extreme stress and financial hardship following damage to their quarter from incidents such as fires caused by chip pans catching alight, or major flood damage following burst pipes. If Service Personnel (SP) and / or their families are found to be liable for the damage, and have no insurance, the MOD will still charge for the repairs (up to £20,000). SP have to find the funds from their own pocket.

All individuals who occupy Service Family Accommodation (SFA), be it either SFA (quarter) or SSFA (hiring), will have signed an agreement on moving into the property, called aService Licence to Occupy Service Family Accommodation (known as a Licence to Occupy). Within the Licence to Occupy, there is a clause that states that the individual is liable for damages up to at least the sum advised currently by the MOD, which from 01 Aug 11 is set at £20,000. Because SP occupy the property under this agreement and are not classed as a tenant, standard home insurance policies do not cover their liability

Get on the property ladder

Get on the property ladder

There are several schemes aimed at helping soldiers buy their own home. The Long Service Advance of Pay (LSAP) is an interest-free Army loan of 182 days’ pay, up to the value of £8500, to help you put a deposit on a property. And if you’ve served between four and six years you could also borrow up to 50% of the value of a property (up to £75,000) through the Armed Forces Home Ownership Scheme (Pilot).

Report Anti-Social Behaviour

Please can parents be vigilant to the behaviour of the children around our estate.  If any child is caught misbehaving the Regiment will have no hesitation but to speak sternly to the parents of those children caught acting in such an irresponsible way – the warning will go on record and should behaviour not improve, more serious action will be taken against the head of household.

We need your support in this matter - do not have a walk by attitude, whatever it may be; litter, antisocial behaviour - particularly so when within a military environment.

This may seem an insignificant issue to some, however if not checked can often lead to an escalation of bad behaviour within our society that is seen as normal.  Parents have a responsibility for their children.

Thank you in advance for your support - to contact the Welfare Dept with any issue please ring 01223 203698 (33 Engr Reg) and 01223 203691 (101 Engr Reg)
